Road Trip
Great road trip this weekend. I had a presentation to make at a conference in Sacramento, so I took Kym, her friend Shyanne, and Kyle with me. We were late into Sac because of getting out of Pville late and a HUGE traffic accident in Madera, but we went to the mall anyhow. When I was done today, we went back to the mall (shopping, shopping, shopping!).
On the way home, I decided to call my cousin Tim in Modesto, but somehow, the last digit in his number got erased on my cell phone. Since his number isn't listed, I had no way to call and get directions. No problem, I had been there once before. I took the right exit, turned at Modesto JC, then started looking around. At the first stop sign, I turned left, looking for a 2 story house on a corner. However, we ran into a slight problem... these were track homes, and every 3rd or 4th house looked the same! I found what I thought was the right one and decided to take my chances. When I knocked on the door (the kids were too embarrassed to come out with me), a very nice Asian family answered. Oops!
We drove around some more, and in a last ditch effort, went down the street behind the college. Eureka! We found it. Of course, the kids still stayed in the car since my track record on getting the right house wasn't too good. However, this time, my cousin's son Daniel answered. He didn't recognize me right away and I am sure he was surprised to see long lost relatives on the doorstep. I was able to have an awesome visit with Tim, and Daniel, Kym, Kyle, and Shyanne seemed to keep themselves occupied.
After I dropped the teenagers off in Tulare, I called my other cousin Jeff, in Sonoma. Sometimes I just need to touch base with these people who have known me since I was born. They are a part of me, I grew up with them, and I wish we all lived closer like we did when we were kids. I decided a long time ago that it would be up to me to stay in touch, and that it would be well worth making the extra effort. Sometimes I do better than other times, but they are never far from my thoughts and always in my heart :)
