The First Rain

It finally happened... the first rain of the season. Just a gentle rain, quiet in the early morning darkness. The first thing I noticed was the clean, fresh smell, then I heard the tiny droplets splashing on the ground, softly, quietly. I know when the rain goes away, the skies will be a magnificient blue, washed clean, and the earth will be refreshed. The transformation from the dry, dusty summer to the new growth of spring has begun. This is the kind of rain I love to lay in bed and listen to. I can tell today is going to be a stay-in-your-jammies, drink-lots-of-hot-chocolate, work-snuggled-up-in-bed sort of a day!
