Focus Upward

Over the past few months, a friend and I have been exchanging a couple of things we are grateful for each day. What better time to reflect on all of those blessings than the first day of a new year. Here's what's been on my list:

My down comforter ~ Blue jeans ~ A job I love ~ Friends that care ~ Challenges and choices ~ Chocolate fudge cook & serve pudding (warm, of course) ~ Hot chocolate on a cold autumn morning ~ Reliable transportation ~ The price of gas that has gone down ~ Gentle caresses and lingering hugs (good for the body and soul) ~ A purring cat ~ Puppy dog kisses ~ A snuggling child ~ The process that is rolling, wherever it may take me ~ The ability to try and stand outside of myself and think reflectively about what is happening ~ Cell phones and text messages ~ Space heaters ~ Fuzzy socks ~ Goals and a sense of purpose ~ My new washer and dryer ~ Sunrise over the Sierras ~ Moonlit walks by the lake ~ Cheese-its ~ Scrambled eggs ~ Cell phones (even though I can’t stand the one I have!) ~

friends that accept me for who I am ~ emotional honesty ~ optimism and hope ~ fingers stroking my hair ~ dishwashers ~ HOT shower ~ Ylang Rose body sugar ~ Time to think and process ~ Resilience ~ Geek toys ~ Leftovers ~ DVDs ~ My #1 daughter ~ Advil Sinus ~ My camera ~ My front porch swing ~ Saturday Night Live “Best of” DVDs ~ Challenges at work that let me focus and give me a chance to make a lasting contribution to students ~ Laptops ~ John Irving books ~ Phone calls just to see how I’m doing ~ Clean sheets ~ Good friends ~ Safe places (physically and emotionally) ~ Pencil sharpeners ~ The internet ~ Frosty late autumn mornings ~ Raindrops outside my window ~ Warm blankets to snuggle in ~ Alarm clocks ~ Sunshine ~ Space heaters (‘cause I need to get the furnace fixed in Inyo) ~ Blow-up beds (‘cause they are softer than the floor in Inyo) ~ Double Chocolate Meltdown Hot Chocolate (‘cause it’s WAY cold here in Inyo!) ~ New Homeowner’s Insurance (‘cause all I need to do is call to get the furnace fixed) ~ Books on CD (‘cause they make the drive home go by faster) ~ Tissues in sunflower boxes ~ Target ~ My overall good health ~ That my home equity loan is ready to close ~ December (means winter break is almost here) ~ 4-wheel drive in the Suburban ~ Teaching the last class tonight (presentations next week) ~ Gingerbread biscotti from Costco ~ The Dalai Lama’s Little Book of Wisdom ~ Bottled water ~ Late night comedy (Leno rocks!) ~ My new cell phone ~ A sense of peace and purpose ~ New beginnings ~ My students ~ A full night’s sleep for the first time in a while ~ Only one more class this semester ~ The crescent moon hanging in the clear night sky over the silhouette of the eastern Sierras ~ Getting this document done! ~ Having Nakyta drive to CC today so I can sleep in the car ~Pink flannel jammie pants ~ Costco ~ That my equity loan should fund today ~ Candy canes ~ Popcorn ~ Pretty clouds ~ Scented candles ~ Sand & surf ~ Semester over ~ My cousin Jeff ~ My dog ~ Driving home today for the last time for at least a few weeks ~ Country style potatoes ~ Hot chocolate ~ Friends who touch base and check in ~ Students who care ~ Quiet morning ~ Being able to explore ideas ~ Being able to just be ~ Daffodils ~ Meeting Andy’s new girlfriend ~ an awesome T.A. ~ breakfast in bed ~ flickr.com ~ time to finish Christmas shopping this weekend ~ amazon.com ~ Early morning rain ~ Getting a call from my little kids this morning ~ Girl's night out last night ~ Getting most of Christmas shopping done ~ early morning kisses and snuggles ~ natural light bulbs ~ wooden crates ~ good weather ~ time off ~ DDR ~ lazy morning ~ Google Earth ~ late night text messages ~ people who make me smile :) ~ Sunrises ~ that i kept records and documentation ~ computers ~ call from my lawyer late last night ~ rainbows ~ mountain streams ~ friends that make me think ~ silly goats ~ Good lawyer ~ Last time in Visalia this year ~ Computer warranties ~ My kids ~ Long-acting, one-dose antibiotic shots ~ Christmas spirit ~ Quiet morning ~ Spirit of giving ~ Heavenly Father’s blessings ~ Chocolate crepes ~ Biscuits and gravy ~ Clear blue sky morning ~ Loving family ~ Andy ~ Kym ~ Emilee ~ Rachel ~ Matthew ~ nice drive to Lone Pine yesterday ~ Sleeping in my own bed in pville 2night ~ blue gatorade mustaches ~my dad ~ blankets of stars @ night
