just in time."

1. Raise your head slowly and say, "...in Jesus' name, Amen
Seriously... I think there's radar or GPS or something hooked up to the door of my office. I wasn't even able to get out of the house until about 11:30 because of IMs, emails, and a few small chores. I came in around noon to work, thinking I'd be able to get more focused here than at home with all of the distractions there are there. Ha! Silly me :)
As soon as I walked in, a conversation that began with a simple "hey, how's it going" turned into a very in-depth discussion of some very personal issues... a student in the online class that just started yesterday walked into my office and talked for about 20 minutes... I had about 10 myspace messages back and forth with someone who needs some special attention right now... I was IMd into a conversation about education and local schools... I got another IM checking in to see how I was doing that ended up with a conversation about an Eagle Scout project... I got a text message from a friend in the bay area asking "hey u how is life. finished hp last night. good book!"... I did manage to squeak out a list of things to do, including printing out a sublist of things to do for one of the things on my todo list :) The phone message light is red indicating that I really should check it, but it's not on my list at the moment. Neither is picking up my mail. It's not going anywhere!
I did just spend an hour responding to discussion board posts in the successful student class... way fun stuff! Next I'll turn my attention to the moodle class grading that I am so far behind in. The pace is picking up... almost time to hold on tight, buckle my seatbelt, and kick it into high gear. Guess this is just practice!
"The requested URL was not found on this server. There are so many reasons that this might have happened we can scarcely bring ourselves to type them all out. You might have typed the URL incorrectly, for instance. Or (less likely but certainly plausible) we might have coded the URL incorrectly. Or (far less plausible, but theoretically possible, depending on which ill-defined Grand Unifying Theory of physics one subscribes to), some random fluctuation in the space-time continuum might have produced a shatteringly brief but nonetheless real electromagnetic discombobulation which caused this error page to appear. Or (and truth be told, this is by far the most likely scenario) you might have reached a page that we meant to create but didn't get around to it, since this year's April Fool's joke got hacked together at the last minute, more or less the same way this one did. And this one. And this one, and this one, and this one..."
Yeah, so between working on taxes and other junk, I managed to get sidetracked into my 100 Things page, which hasn't been updated in quite a while. It's now at 150+ things and I could keep going (and probably will). Check the time stamp at the top to see if it's changed since you were there last.

Ahoy! Here ye, here ye, In honor o' this international day o' Pirateers everywhere, I decided t' go in search o' me Inner Pirate and here's what I found out:
You are The Cap'n!
Some women are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any man that stands between them and the mantle of power. You never met a man you couldn't eviscerate. Not that mindless violence is the only avenue open to you - but why take an avenue when you have complete freeway access? You are the definitive Woman of Action. You are James Bond in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. Your swash was buckled long ago and you have never been so sure of anything in your life as in your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off their head if they show any sign of taking you on or backing down. You cannot be saddled with tedious underlings, but if one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones' locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed - a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

Be seein' ye later,

I couldn't sleep last night. Not only could I not sleep, I ended up working until dawn. Around 7am I tried to lay down, but I was so wound up that I still couldn't do much more than just close my eyes. Then a couple of phone calls, things I had to take care of, talking to a few friends... by the time I finally fell asleep, it was 1pm or so. I guess that makes somewhere around 30 hours awake. I did get about 3 hours before I got back up. I was able to write a 5 page letter and go into town. Just too much to think about and my mind won't shut down. My mind is racing, my stomach is actually knotted up. Maybe I'll go for a midnight walk tonight and see if that helps.
Ok, this is when it would be good to have someone here to take me by the hand, hold me close, and tell me that it will all work out. I need to take a deep breath, close my eyes, and just hire someone. Finding the paperwork is going to be a daunting task, much less making sense of it all. I just need to do it.

I notice that I seem to be attracted to people who have interesting contrasts that I don't expect. For example, the hard core businessman who fusses over his puppy like a baby, or the fork-lift driver who enjoys going to live theater. I like people who can make me smile and laugh out loud. I like people that can hold their own in a conversation and add something interesting that makes me think about things in a different way. These people intrigue me and make me want to know more about them. Just a thought!
I'm in LA, behind Dodger Stadium, in a nice little house in Elysian Park. I can see the downtown skyline from the kitchen window. Not a bad place to stay for a few nights, although the hwy is a little noisy out the open windows. I just spent a few hours laughing like I haven't done in a while. It's good to be among friends who care and people who know how to open up and live their lives.
Lazy day today. I discovered that sleeping on the floor is VERY hard on my back. I slept in a little and then we all got up and headed into town for some shopping at Walmart (air mattresses among other things), Mervyn's (clothes of course) and Home Depot (just looking). We had a nice lunch at Nickoletti's before coming back to the house. The previous owners were there picking up some remaining items and said they'd be back later on to get the rest. They showed me where some important things were, like the breaker box and the water main shutoff. Since it was mid-afternoon, Nakyta, Mackenzie and I decided to take a nap for a little while before deciding what to do for the rest of the day. That was a nice break, given the hectic pace of the previous week.
I went for a walk this evening to try and clear the cobwebs from my mind. It's a path I've taken many times over the last few years and one that I have grown to love. I was walking with my dog, and with a few others, but I felt like I was in a world all my own. As I walked to the top of the hill, looking at neighbor's houses, listening to dogs barking, seeing birds flying low overhead, I suddenly found myself getting a little misty-eyed. When I got to the top of the hill, turned around, and looked over the little valley that I've called home, looked at the setting sun over the foothills, the lake in the distance... I almost cried. I've taken great comfort in that view so many times. So many times it gave me hope, and peace, and perspective to help me through some very hard times. Standing there, I realized that I would soon be saying goodbye and that my time here is limited. I know... I know... but still...
It's that wonderful time of year when the Orb Spiders take their place under the lights, between the rafters, and construct the most precise and elaborate webs. They are huge creations, intricate and delicately beautiful. Every day, the spiders construct a new web, fixing the holes left as small insects struggle to escape. I love watching them as they move around the web, constructing pattern after pattern. Very cool.
Is that possible? To be right here, right now, and not have the past clouding your perspective or the future causing you concern?
It is.
Do you know how long it has been since I've awaken in the middle of the night with poetry flowing through my mind, unable to go back to sleep until I committed verse to paper (or Word, in this case)? What's up with that?

A golden fluff of fur! Watch out for your toes :)
Do you ever wake up and feel ready to take on the day? I'm ready! I have a lot on my plate this week, and I'm not sure I can pull it all off, but I sure am going to give it my best effort. Basically, I have nothing to lose, and a lot to gain, so it's worth my time. The worst thing that can happen is that I will learn something new. That's always a good thing :)
Oh great! I go in search of weight loss blogs to get ideas on how to document my attempt and end up at a Font site. How do I always end up at a Font site? I'm a fontaholic... all those beautiful typefaces beckoning me to use them... it's almost as bad as the call of the bookstore in the mall. There's even one called "You Are What You Eat". Ho hum... Pizza Dude here I come!
