Assignment Objective:
To demonstrate your ability to answer general reference-type questions from a range of disciplines by choosing and using appropriate Web-based tools and resources.
Assignment Overview:
Below you will find a set of 12 questions. Each question may ask for multiple pieces of information. Provide answers to all parts of 6 of the 12 questions (do not answer all 12). List the questions and their answers in the same numerical order as they are provided, indicating which questions you are not answering.
How to Format Your Answers:
For each question, provide the following information, in this order:
1. The answer(s) to the question
2. The URLs of at least two different Web sites at which the answer(s) can be found (Note: If the first URL ends in ".gov" or ".edu", you are not required to provide a second URL.)
3. The name(s) of the World Wide Web directory or search engine you used to locate the answer. (can't use Ask Jeeves)
4. The search term or terms you used to locate the answer(s) . Include any special search engine options or features that you used, such as Boolean operators, truncation, etc.
The method you used to obtain each answer should be made sufficiently clear so that another individual could use the same method and obtain the answer.
Sample Submission:
Assume that the question was given as follows:
"According to the lyrics of Elton John's popular song "Levon", what was the first and last names of Levon's father?"
You would answer as follows:

What *Not* to Include
Do not explain how to use a computer, how to sign on to a computer account, how to use a Web browser, or how to find a directory or search engine (such as Yahoo or AltaVista) that is listed in your textbook.
What Tools to Use:
For the purpose of this assignment, you are expected to use the World Wide Web, its directories, and its search engines to locate the requested information. Do not use "traditional" library resources such as Academic Universe or the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Other Important Dos and Don'ts:
Because the purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your personal Internet skills, you are expected to work *alone* on this assignment. Specifically, you can expect to receive a zero (0) on this assignment if you do not work alone on all parts of this assignment.
You may ask general questions of the your instructor concerning Internet tools and resources, but do not request specific hints. All answers to this Hunt pre-exist on the Internet; therefore, do not e-mail any individual or discussion list or post to any Usenet newsgroup in an effort to obtain the answers. (You may examine the pre-existing archives and FAQs of discussion lists and Usenet newsgroups, of course, as these may appear on the World Wide Web.) You are encouraged to use your textbook for ideas on how to locate appropriate directories and search engines.
How to Submit the Assignment:
You will submit this document as an email attachment. The subject line of your email MUST say P055 Internet Hunt Last Name, First Name. It MUST be saved as a Word document (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file. In the body of your document, include your name, date, and class. Submissions not following these guidelines will be returned.
Due Date/Time:
See calendar for due date. Due at the midnight of the due date. You will generally have 2 weeks to complete this assignment.
Grading:
Partial credit will be given for partial answers, although no credit will be given for answers unaccompanied by method. The assignment will be graded on a 200-point scale. Assignments received after midnight of the due date may be penalized.
