Objective:
To create a resource list of search tools.
Assignment:
Keep a list of all search tools used during the course of the semester. Include Name, URL, type (search engine, directory, database, etc), and a one sentence description. Can be organized alphabetically, by type, or by chapter. Include sites we have visited that are not listed in the chapter as well as any sites you may have discovered on your own.
Choose your top three tools and write a more detailed description of each site, including why it is your favorite. Make sure to mention any advanced search features, tips & tricks, size of database, average number of searches and other information you feel is important. The detailed description should be at least 100 words long (1-2 paragraphs).
Good places to check for more detailed information are the search tool's help section. You can also look up information on http://www.searchenginewatch.com and http://www.researchbuzz.com/.
Due Date: May 6th.
Submission Information:
You will submit this document as an email attachment. The subject line of your email MUST say P055: Last Name, First Name, Search Tool List. It MUST be saved as a Word document (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file. Submissions not following these guidelines will be returned.
Evaluation:
You will be evaluated on the quality and quantity of your submission. As a rule, an "A" assignment can expect to have listed between 25-30 search tools, with an outstanding evaluation of the top three. A "B" assignment will list between 20-25 items, and a "C" will include between 15-20. Will will be visiting at least 20 different sites throughout the course. The remainder of the items will be ones that you have found through Research Buzz, LII, or other sources.
