Abstract

It's the process:
Find your professional voice &
Perfect your practice with Action Research

Conference: Computer Using Educators (CUE)
Date: March 2007
Location: Palm Springs, CA
Audience: Computer using educators nationwide

Description: Action Research is a growing interest in education reform and the surest path to perfecting your practice as an educator. A panel of ed tech graduate students share their action research with their new found voices. Applying theory and technology to practice is what professionals do. No one would willingly see a dentist who did not avail himself of the latest technology and thinking. Why should kids have to go to school that way?

Action research is about applying theory and technology to the practice of education. It is a simple process: Plan, act, observe and reflect. However, it can transform your personal practice from teaching to "modeling learning" and possibly transform education in general.

Students report transformation of their ideas of learning and leadership...
"The perspective I had about learning before has completely changed"
"It was like going from 2D to 3D"

The objectives of this session are...
- Provide an introduction to action research
- Discuss the ease with which teachers can participate
- Have students share their action research projects
- Entertain questions and share resources

The panel would consist of past students, current students and faculty to facilitate. Any other schools would be welcome. The session goal would be to answer attendee questions about the process and provide real life examples in order to inspire more action research.
