INFS P055: Sample Assignments
Internet Research Assignments
This class is built around the framework of the steps in an actual research project. Students are asked to select a topic, search for resources, evaluate sites they have found, and create an annotated bibliography. Students have weekly homework and discussion assignments that have them practice the skills learned in class.
An example assignment has the students visit two unique search tools, Visual Thesaurus and Kartoo.
Assessment
As mentioned above, the class takes students through the research process. An example of the Internet Hunt can be found here. In addition to the four main assignments listed above, students are asked to keep a search tool list, a collection of search sites they have visited throughout the class. They list sites, add a short description, and organize it according to a system that is meaningful to them. At the end of the term, they choose their 3 favorite sites and write up an extended review of features. This paper is turned in for a grade, and serves as a resource list to the student after they leave the class.
